A huge collection of photographs documenting the history and changing face of Lichfield will be offered for sale later this month.

Compiled over many years by a local woman, the fascinating archive features photographs and documents showing the constantly evolving landscape of the city.

It reveals long-forgotten street scenes, buildings, changing shop fronts, demolition and new construction.

There are shots of special architectural features and details, images of the Bower procession from different years, panoramic views and the restoration of Erasmus Darwin House.

Inevitably, Lichfield Cathedral also features heavily - including the Queen’s visit to distribute the Maundy Money in 1988.

The treasure trove will be in the Country House and Collectors Sale at the Fradley Park Auction Centre of Richard Winterton Auctioneers on Wednesday, September 27.

Catalogue estimate for the collection is £1,000 to £1,200.

Viewing takes place on September 23 between 10.30am and 12.30pm, on Tuesday, September 26, between 10am and 6pm, and on the morning of the sale from 8.30am. The sale starts at 10am.
